BIO

Laurie Rusk Sewell has been practicing law in Martin and St. Lucie counties since 1985. She and her husband Jay moved to Palm City to be near her family after spending nearly 5 years touring the country on the Ladies’ Professional Golf Tour (LPGA) and the Women’s Professional Golf Tour (WPGT). Beginning as an associate in a small firm in Stuart, she assisted the litigation partners with pleadings, legal research and appellate briefs, and the real estate and estate planning partner with title searches, closings and will drafting. Ultimately, she decided that real estate and estate planning were the areas that she enjoyed most and has focused her practice in these areas for the last 30 years.

Laurie attended Florida State University and was the first female to be awarded an athletic scholarship at FSU. She also was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and graduated from Florida State University in 1977 with a B.S. in Finance. After a three-month break, she went to the “other” Florida school, University of Florida College of Law, and earned her J.D. in 1980.

She has been involved in many community and charitable organizations over the years including being on the Boards of the American Cancer Society (Martin County Unit), Celebrities for Kids, Women’s Council of Realtors, and Martin Downs Country Club. She also was involved in her son, Jackson’s, Boy Scout “career” (2002-2012 Tiger through Eagle) as den leader and then Cubmaster in Cub Scout Pack 832, and as Treasurer and Committee Member for Boy Scout Troop 823. Regarding professional associations and memberships, she is a member of The Florida Bar, The Martin County Bar Association, the Martin County Florida Real Estate Council. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, birding, golfing, fishing, and traveling.

The office is commonly described as the “little yellow house in the middle of a 5-acre lot” on Martin Highway in Palm City, and she and her wonderful assistants, Ixa and Erica, enjoy the casual, friendly atmosphere, often joined by Erica’s black lab, Triton, who has become the office mascot. We are a pet-friendly office and welcome clients with their well-behaved dogs.
